Our Silver Paws Program, an extension of the Stop the Suffering family, focuses on senior dogs, ages 6 and up, who have found themselves homeless and in a shelter.

We work with our shelter partners to assess each dog coming into the program for medical and nutritional needs.  The dog is then placedinto one of our foster homes while we look for a loving forever home that understands the ongoing needs of a sweet, yet experienced, dog.

Our Silver Paw dogs tend to need a little more medical care upfront to get them to a healthy state.  But once they are healthy, they are ready relax and enjoy their new forever family.

Why Stop the Suffering?

Silver Paws Program

Our Mission Statement

Stop the Suffering exists for the sole purpose of rescuing dogs and cats from high-kill rural shelters throughout rural Ohio and transporting them to safe environments where they can be evaluated and matched with their forever family.

We raise funds to provide veterinary care, transportation, and food for rescued animals, and also work to provide instruction and resources to promote responsible pet ownership in the community.

The biggest difference between STS and most other animal rescue groups is that we operate a major transport program each week.  We load our STS van and drive personal vehicles to transport between 50 and 100 lives each week.

With the support of our donors, community, and volunteers, we were able to transport over 3,000 dogs and cats from high-kill shelters in southern Ohio, northern Kentucky and West Virginia to rescues throughout Ohio, Michigan, and Canada; provide veterinary care to more than 270 lives through our sponsorship program; and adopt 70 plus lives to loving homes in 2017.
