Stop the Suffering exists for the sole purpose of rescuing dogs and cats from high-kill rural shelters throughout rural Ohio and transporting them to safe environments where they can be evaluated and matched with their forever family.

We raise funds to provide veterinary care, transportation, and food for rescued animals, and also work to provide instruction and resources to promote responsible pet ownership in the community.

Silver Paws Program

Our Mission Statement

Our Silver Paws Program, an extension of the Stop the Suffering family, focuses on senior dogs, ages 6 and up, who have found themselves homeless and in a shelter.

We work with our shelter partners to assess each dog coming into the program for medical and nutritional needs.  The dog is then placedinto one of our foster homes while we look for a loving forever home that understands the ongoing needs of a sweet, yet experienced, dog.

Our Silver Paw dogs tend to need a little more medical care upfront to get them to a healthy state.  But once they are healthy, they are ready relax and enjoy their new forever family.

Why Stop the Suffering?

The biggest difference between STS and most other animal rescue groups is that we operate a major transport program for moving rural Ohio shelter animals from counties such as Scioto, Lawrence, Licking, Perry and several others to approved rescues in other areas.

We pride ourselves on the fact that we transport 50-100+ animals to safe havens each week. In 2016, we saved 4,150 lives through our transport program.

In addition to transport, STS operates adoption and sponsorship programs.  Last year, we cared for and found forever homes for 71 dogs and 6 cats.  Through our sponsor program -- shelter pull fees, vaccinations, acute medical care, spay and neuters, and boarding expenses, we are able to help over 50 animals
